About This Role

The Engineering Technologist will extract technical data from engineering drawings and specifications, manage consolidated bills of materials, and ensure procured materials meet design and quality requirements. This role will interface with procurement and warehousing teams to support construction project objectives within a high-tech manufacturing environment at the nation's premier plutonium center of excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform job activities to extract technical data from engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ensure procured materials meet national codes, standards, and LANL quality requirements
  • Manage a consolidated bill of materials (CBOM)
  • Interface with procurement and warehousing teams to support construction project objectives
  • Participate in IPT meetings and serve as a primary PT-8 point of contact for project personnel
  • Use professional concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex issues
  • Contribute to the development of new methods and approaches
  • Apply expert knowledge of engineering, mathematics, and science principles to solve technical problems
  • Work with engineering staff to prepare and/or carry out changes in design, manufacturing methods, and drafting techniques; coordinate corrective actions
  • Assist in on-the-job training of personnel
  • Understand material and material properties, evaluate problems post-inspection, and understand CNC machine capabilities
  • Aid and mentor early career engineers and machinists for design and manufacturability and machine tool operations in a Category 2 Nuclear Facility
  • Understand and utilize a variety of CNC machines such as Haas, Mazak, Moore, Precitech, and DMU
  • Work independently and effectively represent the PT-8 Group in meetings
  • Provide guidance to customers and junior personnel
  • Prepare, review and document technical information
  • Adhere to engineering policies, programs, procedures and practices
  • Provide project support and review bid analyses to make recommendations

Requirements

  • Familiarity with reviewing technical specifications and engineering design drawings
  • Basic understanding of national codes and standards for material characteristics
  • Basic knowledge of QA standards and applicability
  • Ability to handle multiple activities with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word) and other relevant software
  • Ability to deliver clear and concise written and oral communication
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Basic understanding of supply chain management process and strategies
  • US Citizenship required for Q clearance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution
  • 2 years related experience (5 years for ET2)

Nice to Have

  • DOE Q Clearance
  • Knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards and guides
  • Knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA Complex specific codes, standards
