Noncredit Older Adult - Caregiver Instructor

About This Role

Instruct noncredit courses for older adults focusing on caregiver needs at West Valley College. This is a part-time position with assignments during Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in-class or online/distance education activities
• Evaluate students' work and consult with students outside of class/online
• Maintain currency in the subjects taught
• Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college
• Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due
• Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices
• Maintain office hours each week (.5 hours per week per section)
• Observe, support, and enforce District and college regulations, policies, and programs
• Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course
• Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other student services
• Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in their area of expertise
• Work cooperatively within the college community
• Foster a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice, and bias

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with related major AND experience or coursework in understanding older adult needs OR Associate degree with related major AND 2 years occupational experience AND coursework in understanding older adult needs
• Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught OR an Associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught.
• One year of professional experience working with older adults (if holding a Bachelor's) OR two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught (if holding an Associate's).
