About This Role

This role involves executing the deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks globally for Google. The objective is to build a reliable, cost-effective, and scalable network for current and future customers.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate Google's network reliably and at scale
  • Execute deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide
  • Develop creative approaches and collaborate with cross-functional teams to keep operational costs low
  • Monitor the network and repair issues while anticipating needs and escalating issues
  • Own network documentation, update and maintain network designs and plans

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in DWDM or TCP/IP or system design operations methodology
  • Experience working with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors in a telecommunications environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3 years of experience in DWDM or TCP/IP or system design operations methodology

Nice to Have

  • Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Layer 1 optical transmissions systems, layer 3 routing TCP/IP, wireless networking, network design, or operations
  • Experience creating long-haul optical designs using vendor design tools, applying technical acumen to a given optical design, translating to bits on the wire
  • Experience in NPI and writing test plan documents in lab or staging environment
  • Understanding of optical design trade-offs, with the knowledge of TL1/CLI automation
  • Ability to identify repetitive work and propose automation for workflow
