MICU Registered Nurse

About This Role

Provide direct patient care in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, utilizing the nursing process for assessment, planning, and implementation of patient care. This role involves critical thinking, communication with patients and families, and coordination with other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients by compiling data and formulating nursing diagnoses, utilizing physical assessment and interviewing techniques
• Initiate and update a written nursing plan of care for patients by incorporating scientific and psychosocial principles
• Coordinate patient, family, significant other, and health team members in the planning of hospital and post-discharge care
• Perform clinical nursing skills independently, administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments appropriately and accurately
• Initiate appropriate emergency procedures as necessary
• Delegate and coordinate duties of ancillary personnel appropriately
• Document patient's status and plan of care in the medical record and verbally communicate with healthcare professionals
• Communicate in a therapeutic manner with patient, family, and visitors, applying teaching/learning principles
• Manage daily patient assignment by appropriately setting priorities
• Participate in established patient, family, staff, and/or student education programs and clinical monitoring at the unit level

Requirements

• Current Maryland RN license
• Completion of 'Healthcare Provider' CPR course
• Interpersonal communication (oral and written) skills
• Proficiency in developing nursing plan of care, implementing effective nursing care, and evaluating outcome of nursing intervention

Qualifications

• Associate Degree from an accredited School of Nursing required; Bachelor's degree required within 3.5 years of start date.
