Provide direct patient care to individuals with mental illness under the supervision of a registered nurse, assisting with daily living activities, monitoring behavior, and ensuring a safe environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one interaction with patients
- Assist in educational sessions and facilitate task oriented sessions
- Assist with patient intake, admission, and discharge processes including data collection and unit orientation
- Perform patient, body, and property searches, and secure patient property
- Participate in patient care conferences and treatment-planning meetings
- Observe and document patients at risk for dangerous behavior (suicidal, self mutilation or aggression towards others)
- Obtain vital signs, perform specimen collection (blood draws, urine collection), diagnostic testing (ECG, breathalyzer), and assist with physical examinations
- Assist patients with activities of daily living e.g. eating, dressing, bathing and laundry
- Monitor and document patient observations, interactions, interventions, and patient response
- Complete court petitions, accompany patients to court, and testify for court-ordered treatment
- Assist professional staff with restraint and seclusion as needed
- Perform routine clerical functions e.g. answering phones, computer input, ordering supplies, generating reports
- Ensure patient care equipment is clean and in good working order
- Promote guest relations by anticipating and responding to needs quickly and courteously
- Treat others with care and respect while maintaining privacy, confidentiality, and dignity
- Maintain a professional appearance and a clean, safe environment
Requirements
- One year of college study in behavioral health or equivalent combination of education and experience in an adult mental health setting AND one year of related clinical experience working with mentally ill patients; OR Associates degree in psychology, social work or a human service discipline.
- Successful completion of annual recipient rights training and physical management in-service and demonstration
- Maintains active CPR certification
Qualifications
- One year of college study in behavioral health or an Associate's degree in psychology, social work or a human service discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1+ year of clinical experience working with mentally ill patients in an adult mental health setting
