Medication Technician (Medication Assistant)

About This Role

This role is responsible for administering and assisting with medication administration to residents, according to their Individual Service Plan and Physician Orders, while maintaining accurate medical records and providing personal care.

Responsibilities

• Administer and/or assist with self-administration of prescribed medication to residents
• Maintain related medical records under the supervision of the RN and/or LPN
• Verify identity of resident receiving medication and record name of drug, dosage, route, and time of administration
• Present medication to residents and observe ingestion or other application, assist or administer medication using specified procedures
• Take vital signs or observe residents to detect and respond to specified types of medication
• Document reasons prescribed drugs are not ingested by resident
• Adhere to community medication policies
• Administer or assist with medication administration via various routes (oral, topical, eye, ear and nose, rectal, transdermal, sublingual and buccal)
• Complete required annual medication training
• Provide personal care in a compassionate and understanding manner, including bed bath, shower, or tub bath, and appropriate care of skin, hair, nails, mouth and feet

Requirements

• Authorized by applicable state governing authority to assist or administer medication
• Meet state assisted living medication assistant guidelines
