About This Role

The Medical Assistant at Northwestern Medicine supports physicians, nurses, and medical staff by ensuring efficient patient flow, assisting with patient care activities, and performing administrative functions in a Rheumatology setting. This role includes a $2,000 sign-on bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms, identify patients, and prepare them for examination
  • Obtain accurate vital signs and document reason for visit, allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information
  • Inform providers and registered nurses of significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms
  • Anticipate and set up equipment or supplies needed for visits and clean exam rooms
  • Expedite visits and maintain patient flow, prioritizing tasks accordingly
  • Assist practitioners with medical and surgical procedures (e.g., ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, specimen collection)
  • Prepare and stock exam rooms by following protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment
  • Participate in environmental safety rounds and maintain vaccine/medication inventory
  • Monitor and maintain equipment and instruments according to clinic guidelines
  • Assist in ordering supplies and correctly dispose of expired items
  • Adhere to office opening and closing procedures
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and the patient care team

Requirements

  • Written proof of meeting candidate eligibility requirements for one of the five eligible certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • American Heart Association accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
  • Strong computer skills
  • Attain one of the specified Medical Assistant certifications within first six months of employment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; completion of accredited Medical Assistant training program preferred
  • One to two years of ambulatory care experience preferred
