Support the Pulmonary and Sleep practice by assisting healthcare teams with clinical and non-clinical patient services, ensuring efficient patient care and flow. This role primarily supports one pulmonologist by taking vital signs, documenting patient information, and handling administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or test results in medical records
- Perform general office duties such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms
- Act as a liaison with other departments and advocate for patients with a positive customer service approach
- Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping them neat, clean, and stocked with supplies
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations
- Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 0-1 year of direct MA experience or medical field work preferred
Nice to Have
- Medical Assistant Course or diploma program or a minimum of 1 year professional experience
