About This Role

This role involves providing exceptional customer service and clinical support within the UM Orthotics and Prosthetics Center, assisting with patient care activities, and contributing to process improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients and families and manage efficient patient flow
  • Prepare and organize clinic exam and procedure rooms with appropriate equipment and supplies
  • Perform sterilization/cleaning of equipment, supply stocking/ordering, and maintenance of patient care areas
  • Document patient vitals, health status, medications list, and allergies in the electronic medical record
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team caring for patients with various conditions in an outpatient setting
  • Provide accurate and efficient clinical support for patient preparation, medication administration, and prescription refills
  • Perform direct patient care, including diabetic nail debridement and trimming under physician supervision
  • Facilitate the appointment process with clerical staff and handle patient calls
  • Collaborate with clinicians and physician staff to ensure optimal patient care and problem-solve patient and family care issues
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding care

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Graduation from a medical assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and experience (3-4 years)
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Experience in panel management including provider registry data and exception reports
  • Ability to perform moderate standing/walking, lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and graduation from a medical assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and experience (3-4 years)
  • 3-4 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice to Have

  • Additional formal education in a health care field
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant
