This role is a Medical Assistant II focused on Cardiology and involves performing advanced medical assistant duties, managing patient flow, and resolving patient satisfaction concerns.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a higher degree of technical expertise than Medical Assistant I and serve as a role model and resource to other Medical Assistants
- Manage patient flow, access, and scheduling for clinicians to optimize patient appointment availability, serving in a dedicated capacity to one or more clinicians
- Manage clinicians' daily schedule to expedite care and maximize clinical time, determining urgency and priority of walk-ins, add-on patients, and patient consults
- Coordinate the practice when clinicians are unavailable, ensuring calls are responded to properly and clinicians receive necessary information
- Sort, manage, and review clinician mail (paper or electronic), maintain and screen MyHealth messages, and address incoming questions when appropriate
- Monitor practice issues and problems, identify and resolve concerns regarding patient satisfaction, patient flow, and compliance with procedures and guidelines, advocating for patients as appropriate
- Identify and assist in resolving patient concerns and operational difficulties, informing supervisor of outstanding issues in the practice
- Handle patient and third-party requests (e.g., worker's compensation, government and social services) for documentation of medical information
- Complete forms needed for visits and submit to MD for review, reviewing patient records for missing information and verifying prior authorizations
- Participate in care improvement activities such as Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs), Value Stream Analyses (VSAs), and Managing of Daily Improvements (MDIs)
- Train and orient new staff as needed, potentially involving interviewing and on-boarding of new staff
- Represent the department on groups and teams related to upgrades of the electronic medical record
Requirements
- High School/GED
- 3+ years experience in a clinical setting with at least one as a Medical Assistant
Qualifications
- High School/GED
- 3+ years in a clinical setting with at least one as a Medical Assistant (a bachelor's or associate degree may be substituted for one year of experience)
Nice to Have
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
