The Medical Assistant II provides comprehensive clinical and administrative support to patients under the guidance of Providers and licensed Nurses. This role is crucial for patient care, administrative efficiency, and contributing to training within the scope of practice.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examination; take and record vital signs; perform phlebotomy as needed; administer medications as directed by Providers according to policy and procedure
- Collect data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients, including discharge plans, under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
- Collect, process, and submit laboratory specimens in accordance with policy and procedure
- Communicate patient findings and pertinent information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse utilizing appropriate communication/documentation processes
- Accurately and timely document care within the EPIC system
- Perform point-of-service activities such as appointment scheduling, visit preparation, co-payment collection and patient tracking as needed
- Perform clinical duties that are department specific such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and any other procedures
- Perform routine tasks and general office duties such as faxing, copying, filing, etc. as needed
- Clean, stock, and prepare examination rooms
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program, EMT Program, or Paramedic Program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association
- Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology
- Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Completion of an approved (valid) Medical Assistant Program, EMT Program, or Paramedic Program is required.
- No experience required, experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
Nice to Have
- Experience in phlebotomy
- Experience working in healthcare environment
- Experience working in electronic medical record (i.e., EPIC) or similar software
- Medical Assistant certification
