About This Role

This role supports healthcare teams by assisting with clinical and non-clinical patient services, including taking vital signs, documenting patient information, and scheduling appointments. The Medical Assistant will interact directly with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, and collaborate with healthcare providers to facilitate efficient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions, responsibilities, and onboarding training
  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in medical records
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, and organize educational materials
  • Perform general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms
  • Act as a liaison with other departments and advocate for patients with a positive customer service approach
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing
  • Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates
  • Provide immunizations (if certified or with 3 years experience and provider supervision)
  • Improve appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1-2 years direct MA experience or medical field work
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations
  • Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
  • Ability to manage one's own time and the time of others

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
  • 1-2 years direct MA experience or medical field work required

  • Associate's Degree Medical Assisting
  • Phlebotomy skills
