About This Role

Join a rigorous Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program to become a multi-skilled clinical professional, providing indirect and direct patient care under supervision while completing on-the-job training and related technical instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Serve in a rigorous apprenticeship program for up to one year
  • Provide indirect and/or direct patient care within scope of practice
  • Contribute to completion of patient's chief complaint (e.g., respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and temperature)
  • Document patient/family needs and participate in planning and implementing care
  • Administer ordered medications according to state laws and regulations (e.g., oral, injection, topically)
  • Identify significant changes in patient condition through data collection and report to provider
  • Maintain clinical and administrative skills per departmental competency guidelines
  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment by keeping work areas clean, orderly, and safe
  • Assist patient and provider with virtual health visits, including setup, pre-charting, and troubleshooting
  • Document in electronic medical records (EMR) accurately and appropriately
  • Manage in basket messages in the electronic health record (EHR) under Provider’s verbatim instructions
  • Perform front desk workflows (i.e., My Chart requests, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, and check-in/check-out)
  • Follow up on orders, appointments, referrals, and collect co-pays as needed
  • Actively participate in ongoing training per Bon Secours Mercy Health and market recommendations

Requirements

  • 2 endorsements/letters of recommendation from a BSMH leader, educator, mentor, etc. prior to interview
  • High School/GED
  • Enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program within 30 days of employment
  • 1 year of service with RSFH at time of application

Qualifications

  • High School/GED and enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program
  • 1 year of service with RSFH required at time of application; 1 year of healthcare or clerical physician practice experience preferred

Nice to Have

  • 1 year of healthcare or clerical physician practice experience
  • BLS Basic Life Support (upon hire)
