About This Role

Join a rigorous Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program to gain certification and practical experience in patient care at Bon Secours Mercy Health, contributing to the well-being of patients in mind, body, and spirit.

Responsibilities

  • Serve in a rigorous apprenticeship program for up to one year to become a certified clinical professional
  • Provide indirect and/or direct patient care within the scope of practice and in alignment with standards of excellence and quality
  • Contribute to the completion of the patient’s chief complaint by taking vital signs and documenting needs
  • Participate in planning and implementing care for patients and may administer ordered medications according to state laws
  • Adhere to legal responsibilities and requirements within the Medical Assistant role
  • Identify significant changes in patient condition through data collection and report to the provider
  • Maintain clinical and administrative skills per departmental competency guidelines to meet patient care and daily operational needs
  • Prepare examination rooms and patients for physicians
  • Assist patient and provider with virtual health visits, including setup, pre-charting, and troubleshooting
  • Document accurately and appropriately in electronic medical records (EMR) and manage in-basket messages under provider's instructions
  • Perform front desk workflows such as patient registration, scheduling, and cash handling
  • Follow up on orders, appointments, referrals, and collect co-pays as needed

Requirements

  • 2 endorsements/letters of recommendation from a BSMH leader, educator, mentor, etc. prior to interview
  • Ability to earn certification within 6 months with an 18-month total commitment to Bon Secours Mercy Health
  • Enrollment as a full-time student with Cincinnati State
  • Completion of at least 2000 hours of On-the-Job Learning (OJL) and 144 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI)
  • Pass the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam at the end of the apprenticeship
  • High School/GED
  • Enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program within 30 days of employment

  • High School/GED (required), Enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program (required within 30 days employment)

Nice to Have

  • 1 year of healthcare or clerical physician practice experience
  • 1 year of service with RSFH at time of application
