Health Care Associate – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

About This Role

The Health Care Associate provides direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, performs basic patient care tasks, and acts as a liaison between patients and nurses. This role focuses on ensuring excellent patient care and customer service within the Progressive Care Unit.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care including personal hygiene, vital sign measurement, and mobility assistance
• Act as a liaison between patients and nurses to report changes and concerns
• Provide high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and employees
• Accurately document patient care information
• Perform delegated tasks after competency validation
• Mobilize patients using therapeutic transfer techniques to foster independence and safety
• Foster patient independence by encouraging task completion
• Individualize care based on patient interests and hobbies

Requirements

• Completed one of the following: nursing aide training program, STNA, CNA, Nurse’s Aide state testing, nursing program with one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation, or 1 year of relevant experience in a clinical setting
• Ability to clearly communicate to other members of the healthcare team
• Ability to understand and follow directions of healthcare team
• Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations
• Knowledge and demonstration of infection prevention and transmission-based precautions
• Ability to work in a team
• Patient data collection and documentation capabilities
• Basic hygiene and activities of daily living care skills
• Ability to assist with feeding, hydration, and nutrition
• Ability to assist with bowel and bladder elimination
• Ability to assist with ambulation and patient mobility
• Use of clinical technology
• Compassion and relationship-based approach in care activities

Qualifications

• 1 year of relevant experience in a clinical setting OR successful completion of nursing aide training program/STNA/CNA/nursing program with one clinical nursing course and clinical rotation (required)

Nice to Have

• Recent experience in acute care, physician's office, home health/hospice, or long-term care facility
• EPIC Electronic Health Record training
