About This Role

The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests following established protocols and procedures. This role involves maintaining adequate supplies, performing preventative maintenance, proficiency testing, quality control, and training new employees, all under the supervision of the Lab Director.

Responsibilities

  • Perform positive patient/specimen identification and label specimens appropriately
  • Obtain adequate blood specimens by venous or capillary puncture on patients of all ages
  • Perform complex lab procedures and recognize deviations from expected results, analyzing and correcting problems
  • Analyze Quality Control data, make judgments, and take appropriate action to maintain accuracy
  • Perform proficiency testing within stated time frame and according to CLIA guidelines
  • Maintain adequate stock of supplies and a clean and orderly work environment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation and equipment
  • Evaluate new procedures and techniques, writing and/or revising existing procedures
  • Complete competency testing and participate in department education
  • Train new employees and conduct reviews of patient’s medical records as needed
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers
  • Comply with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program and all privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all certifications/licenses (e.g., ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple details simultaneously
  • Analytical and reasoning skills with a high level of mental concentration and memory
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions
  • Ability to learn use of new technical devices
  • Computer knowledge including ability to enter material into electronic record

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Medical Technology preferred; B.S. and training or A.S. is also acceptable
