The Mechanical Technician C3 (Fitter) lays out, fits, aligns, and assembles metal components for naval ships, performing precision machining and verifying quality. This role involves preparing components for welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding operations within a shipyard environment.
Responsibilities
- Lay out, fit, align, and assemble prefabricated cast and forged components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding operations
- Perform fitting and machining operations such as straighten, grind, burr, drill, ream, and countersink materials to close tolerances
- Select equipment, set up, and lay out materials to be welded based on general instructions
- Repair or rework distorted parts to restore required tolerances after welding
- Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Willingness to undergo a background investigation and drug screen
- Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb daily
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds
- Ability to perform overhead work
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Ability to be clean shaven to wear a respirator
- Ability to perform work outdoors, in all weather conditions
- Ability to work at extreme heights
- Ability to work in small, tight, confined spaces
- Ability to work any shift
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 3 years of related experience
- Entry level, typically 0-5 years of experience mentioned in education/experience section
