About This Role

This role involves controlling, monitoring, and disposing of various waste materials within the shipyard, requiring specialized knowledge and equipment. The Handler will work in various weather conditions and must adhere to HAZWOPER standards.

Responsibilities

  • Control, monitor, and dispose of hazardous, industrial, and non-hazardous waste scrap, surplus materials, and recyclables
  • Work within the Resource Recovery area of the shipyard in all weather conditions
  • Utilize specialized knowledge and equipment for waste handling
  • Receive 40-hour HAZWOPER initial training and 8-hour annual refresher training
  • Identify products and wastes
  • Unload and load cargo vans
  • Sort heavy scrap/trash material
  • Handle hazardous materials
  • Open and seal 55-gallon drums per OSHA HAZWOPER standards

Requirements

  • Experience identifying products and wastes
  • Experience unloading/loading cargo vans
  • Experience sorting heavy scrap/trash material
  • Experience handling hazardous materials
  • Experience opening and sealing 55-gallon drums per OSHA HAZWOPER standards
