About This Role

The Equipment Engineer (night shift) will operate, sustain, and improve manufacturing equipment at Tesla's Gigafactory New York, ensuring high performance and efficiency. This role involves troubleshooting, leading improvement projects, and training technicians to minimize production downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the equipment performance and improvement of multiple assigned production processes.
  • Sustain 24/7 production operations by responding to and resolving breakdowns quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Participate actively in cross-functional teams to improve the factory, diagnose equipment failures, find root causes, and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  • Lead equipment upgrades with a focus on serviceability, reliability, and process capability.
  • Develop and improve equipment validation procedures, including calibration and qualification.
  • Become an expert-level trainer on all machines in the assigned area and be responsible for the knowledge level of Shift Technicians.
  • Provide hands-on support to the Maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve extended downtime situations.
  • Take initiative to create, implement, and improve preventative and predictive Maintenance documents and schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and program ladder logic (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff) to identify and resolve controls issues.
  • Program and teach industrial 6-axis robots (Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa) for complex, multi-station machinery.
  • Participate in spare part analysis and inventory development, cost reduction, and improvement, working with the Spares Department and vendors.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronic, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of engineering experience in a high-volume environment
  • 2+ years of experience developing and improving HMI's and with PLC (Siemens preferred) programming, motion control, safety devices
  • 1+ years of experience teaching and troubleshooting 6-axis robotics (Fanuc preferred)

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronic, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, including 2+ years developing and improving HMIs and PLC programming, and 1+ year teaching and troubleshooting 6-axis robotics.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with 2D/3D modeling software (AUTOCAD and Solidworks/CATIA preferred)
  • Experience teaching and troubleshooting vision systems (Cognex and Keyence preferred)
  • Experience commissioning and improving equipment
  • Demonstrated track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance activities
  • Experience coding/debugging and troubleshooting End of Line Test machines
  • Good understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Safety, Ergonomics, Change Point Management, Spare Parts Management
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
  • Ability to utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D)
