Maintenance Worker

About This Role

Perform routine, entry-level duties related to the maintenance of state roadways and facilities, contributing to the upkeep of the seventh largest highway system in the United States. This role offers opportunities for career advancement based on skill development and experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain state highway systems, including filling roadway joints and cracks, patching potholes, flagging/directing traffic, setting up traffic control devices, and clearing brush/debris
• Maintain, clean, and repair state highway facilities such as road signs and guardrails, cleaning curbs/gutters, painting buildings/equipment, and servicing machinery
• Operate vehicles to transport employees, equipment, and materials; plow snow and spread ice control materials; mow right-of-way; and operate various heavy equipment
• Repair bridge decks and drains, clean bridge components at heights on ladders or scaffolding
• Install and maintain signs, including structural and large overhead signs, inspect truss signs, pour concrete sign footings, and weld/cut steel sign posts

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
• Valid Driver's License
• Passing grade on written portion of CDL exam prior to hire date
• Pass driving portion of CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status within 60 days of hire
• Successful completion of a work simulation examination
• Successful completion of a medical-physical examination

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
• Entry level duties performed under direct supervision; will bring candidates on as entry-level based on skills and experience.
