Perform routine, entry-level duties related to the maintenance of state roadways and facilities, including signing and striping, under direct supervision. This role offers career advancement opportunities within MoDOT.
Responsibilities
- Maintain state highway systems by filling roadway joints and cracks, patching potholes, flagging traffic, and setting up traffic control devices
- Load, unload, spread, and haul materials and supplies; cut and clear brush; remove trash and debris from roadsides; clean and clear ditches
- Maintain, clean, and repair state highway facilities, including road signs and guardrails; cleaning curbs and gutters; painting buildings and equipment; and servicing equipment and machinery
- Operate vehicles to transport employees, equipment, and materials, warn oncoming traffic, plow snow and spread ice control materials
- Mow right of way using tractor mower and hand tools; operate auger, trencher, backhoe, forklift, and various trucks (e.g., dump, aerial boom, bucket, and platform)
- Repair bridge decks and drains, clean bridge bents/caps at heights on ladders or utilizing scaffolding (as needed)
- Install signs, including structural and large signs at overhead positions; inspect truss signs; pour concrete sign footings; weld and cut steel sign posts; and repair and maintain break away and/or overlay signs (as needed)
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
- Valid Driver's License
- Pass written portion of CDL exam prior to hire date
- Pass driving portion of CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status (EI or NI) within 60 days of hire
- Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
- Entry-level position; MoDOT will bring candidates onto the team as entry-level, intermediate, or senior level, based on skills and experience.
