About This Role

Maintain school buildings in a clean, orderly, and safe condition for individuals with developmental disabilities by performing a variety of repair, cleaning, and maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot minor maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing and equipment
  • Perform preventive building maintenance duties such as caulking windows and repairing broken windows
  • Conduct routine plumbing repairs including unstopping toilets and sinks, and fixing water leaks
  • Carry out routine minor electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs and replacing fixtures
  • Travel to various Birch facilities and supply stores for maintenance assignments
  • Purchase supplies, equipment, and materials needed for projects
  • Assemble and move furniture, hang pictures, and set up tables and chairs
  • Steam clean and shampoo carpets; strip, seal, and polish floors
  • Repair and replace door knobs and locks, patch holes in walls, and paint surfaces
  • Ensure timely addressing of hazardous conditions including snow and debris removal
  • Move furniture, deliveries, packages, and other large items as required
  • Communicate facilities or maintenance issues promptly with building administration
  • Perform all weather-related tasks, including managing walk-off mats and spreading ice melt for snow removal

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two or more years of building maintenance experience
  • 2-4 years experience working in a construction site, handyman role, or related field
  • Demonstrated competency in written, verbal and computational skills to document records pertaining to physical plant operations

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2-4 years of building maintenance experience

  • Experience in a school, residential, health, or treatment related setting
