This Maintenance Technician role is responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs, inspections, and upkeep of assigned properties. The position ensures the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of buildings and grounds, supporting operational efficiency and compliance for Model Cities of Saint Paul, Inc.
Responsibilities
- Complete assigned work orders promptly and document them in Yardi or other applicable software
- Perform general maintenance, repairs, and implement preventive maintenance to safeguard assets
- Conduct building repairs and prepare vacant units for move-in, including painting, cleaning, and minor repairs
- Remove trash and abandoned furniture from vacant units
- Monitor and maintain building maintenance supplies; complete supply lists as needed
- Run errands and pick up supplies and parts as requested
- Coordinate assignments based on priority and need
- Document work orders and enter data into property management systems
- Prepare buildings and/or apartments for inspections
- Continually monitor and improve the curb appeal of assigned properties
Requirements
- High school Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in residential building maintenance
- Experience with drywall, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, tile, screen, and window repair
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a background check
- Maintenance/repair experience
- Ability to operate Microsoft Office
- Ability to use essential maintenance and ERP software
- Ability to work independently and in team environments
Qualifications
- High school Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in residential building maintenance, including drywall, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, tile, screen, and window repair
Nice to Have
- Experience with appliance repairs
- Previous experience in general maintenance or facilities support
- Familiarity with property management software (e.g., Yardi)
- Technical or vocational training
- Experience working with vulnerable populations and/or individuals with lower incomes
- Advanced critical thinking skills
- Advanced de-escalation skills and techniques
- Advanced communication skills
