Perform general custodial duties and maintenance for a building or assigned area within the Auxiliary Services Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Responsibilities
- Remove trash, recyclables, and waste from assigned areas and place receptacles at designated site
- Wash trash, recycling, and waste receptacles by scrubbing and rinsing
- Clean and restock bathrooms and lavatories
- Maintain walls, ceilings, doors, and horizontal surfaces by dusting and washing
- Maintain furniture by dusting, washing, and polishing
- Clean glass and mirrors
- Maintain carpeted areas by vacuuming and cleaning
- Maintain hard floor surfaces by sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing
- Assist in keeping exterior areas immediately adjacent to buildings clean by sweeping and removing trash, snow, and ice
- Move and arrange furniture per specific room plans
- Perform simple general repairs by replacing belts, tightening screws, and cleaning equipment
- Replace light bulbs or fluorescent tubes
- Provide basic security functions by locking doors and windows, and reporting incidents
Requirements
- Knowledge of methods used in institutional cleaning
- Ability to withstand physical strain of performing manual tasks, climbing stairs, lifting, climbing ladders, and bending
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
- Ability to use simple hand and power cleaning equipment
- Ability to read setup sheets and execute timely room setups as per diagrams
