The Residence Director is responsible for leading the overall student experience within residence halls including student learning using a curricular approach, student support and wellbeing, staff supervision and development and response to a range of complex student and staff concerns. The Residence Director participates in a range of department initiatives and projects.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for student learning and inclusive community development within assigned residential communities using a curricular framework.
- Supervise a team of undergraduate Resident Assistants and potentially Graduate Assistant/Assistant Residence Director.
- Serve as lead instructor for EDUC 391R: CORE – Creating Opportunities for Residents to Engage.
- Coordinate response and follow up to a range of complex incidents in residence halls, collaborating with campus partners.
- Uphold the Code of Student Conduct and Residential Life policies, adjudicating student conduct cases as needed.
- Provide 24-hour on-call coverage for campus residential community in a rotation, including during University break periods and holidays.
- Collaborate with campus colleagues, academic partners, and other units, responding to parent/family and campus partner inquiries.
- Support residence hall operations by reporting maintenance issues, monitoring occupancy, and participating in move-in/move-out.
- Support and participate in University initiatives such as New Students Orientation, student organization events, and Residential Life committees and searches.
- Engage in professional development, complete training requirements, and manage assigned community budget.
Requirements
- Master's Degree
- One academic year of post-baccalaureate live-in residence hall staff experience
- Demonstrated experience supervising undergraduate student staff in a residential environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, active listening, decision-making and evaluative skills
- Demonstrated experience with incident response, follow-up with students of concern, and/or on-call experience.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to maintain appropriate levels of privacy and confidentiality
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations and developing inclusive communities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
- Established skills in Microsoft Office applications and ability to utilize electronic systems
Qualifications
- Master's Degree at time of hire.
- One academic year of post-baccalaureate experience as a live-in residence hall staff member. Demonstrated experience supervising undergraduate student staff in a residential environment.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of student learning outcomes, learning strategy design, and outcomes assessment
- Demonstrated experience with web-based student information data management systems
- Previous experience facilitating training and workshops focused on diversity, equity and inclusion topics
