The Licensed Vocational Nurse administers nursing care to patients under the supervision of physicians or registered nurses, including medication administration, patient observation, and maintaining medical records. This role supports the San Francisco Department of Public Health's mission to protect and promote community health.
Responsibilities
- Administer nursing care to patients according to physician's and Registered Nurse's instructions and approved policies
- Participate in planning and maintaining nursing care plans as a team member
- Assist physicians in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and treatments
- Prepare, administer, and record ordered medications and injections
- Provide direct patient care to ensure patient cleanliness and comfort
- Screen patients by obtaining histories and observing/recording physiological and psychological signs, symptoms, and behaviors
- Take vital signs and obtain specimens for diagnostic tests
- Keep accurate records of medication and treatment administration and patient progress
- Maintain a safe, secure, and clean environment with adequate supplies and equipment
- Instruct and counsel patients on physical self-care and emotional needs related to tests and specimen collections
Requirements
- Possession of a valid permanent or temporary California Vocational Nurse License
