About This Role

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Nurse Manager or licensed clinical leader, collaborating with a healthcare team to advance patient care, research, teaching, and community service at Brigham and Women's Hospital's Fish Center.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients about current problems, medications, and allergies, and review medical records.
  • Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration.
  • Provide basic patient care or treatments, including dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, administering catheterizations, routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and visual acuity tests.
  • Participate in patient treatment regimens, including administering medications under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse.
  • Perform a variety of office responsibilities, including answering phones, taking messages, and performing triage within the scope of licensed practical nursing practice.
  • Collect samples, such as blood, urine, or sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.
  • Help patients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing and walking.

Requirements

  • Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma in Licensed Practical Nursing
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - State License

Qualifications

  • Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma Licensed Practical Nurse required
  • 0-1 year of medical experience preferred

Nice to Have

  • 0-1 year of medical experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Basic knowledge of patient education, interviewing, and listening skills
  • Ability to accurately perform vital signs and obtain pertinent health information
  • Ability to administer medication
  • Knowledge and ability to perform specific procedures and tests appropriate to the clinical setting
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, clear, and concise manner
