Library/Media Specialist

About This Role

Administer the school library program and serve as an instructional and technology leader for Syracuse Jr High. This role involves teaching literacy skills, managing the library collection, and promoting reading engagement within the school community.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a relevant and current library collection
• Circulate books among students and faculty
• Catalog and process library materials
• Perform book maintenance and repair, including weeding outdated materials
• Select and purchase books and materials within various budgets
• Teach literacy skills in reading engagement, information research, and media engagement using District DESK and State Core Standards
• Implement and follow school and district library policies
• Teach and instruct students with effective classroom management skills
• Communicate with students and faculty about library needs, resources, and events
• Plan and teach curricular lessons in collaboration with teachers
• Provide professional development for staff on resources or technology
• Develop community connections to promote library activity in school and public venues

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with a current teaching license
• Library Media Endorsement or Master's degree in Library Science (or in process of acquiring either)
