About This Role

This role is for an Adjunct Learning Disabilities Specialist to provide academic accommodations and support to a diverse group of students within the Academic Accommodations Center. The specialist will engage in teaching, program development, and professional development to facilitate authentic learning experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Assume leadership roles within the department and institution

  • Collaborate across disciplines and utilize student support resources
  • Participate in department, division, and college committees and governance activities
  • Participate in curriculum and program development
  • Work collegially and collaboratively within the college community

  • Create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction
  • Effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds
  • Adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge of each individual and class

Requirements

  • Unexpired California Community College Credential in Learning Disabilities Specialist OR
  • Master’s degree in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, speech language pathology, communication disorders, educational or school psychology, counseling, or rehabilitation counseling
  • Fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of Learning Disabilities

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, speech language pathology, communication disorders, educational or school psychology, counseling, or rehabilitation counseling plus fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of Learning Disabilities OR an unexpired California Community College Credential in Learning Disabilities Specialist.

Nice to Have

  • Two years of full-time experience in counseling or guidance for students with disabilities, or in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations with predominantly disability-related responsibilities
  • Completion of the California Community College Learning Disabilities Eligibility & Services Model (LDESM) training OR verified graduate level coursework OR professional training on specific assessment instruments (WAIS IV paper or Q-interactive, Woodcock Johnson IV, WIAT 4, WRAT-5)
  • Experience conducting learning disability evaluations with adults in community college following the LDESM
  • Experience administering and interpreting the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale IV (WAIS IV), the Woodcock Johnson IV Tests of Achievement (and Cognition) and other LDESM test instruments
  • Experience evaluating disability documentation and determining reasonable accommodations based on functional limitations
  • Proficiency with a variety of computer applications used by Learning Disability specialists
  • Working knowledge of Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and other Federal and State legislation affecting disability services
  • Knowledge and application of appropriate instructional strategies and methodologies for students with learning disabilities
  • Ability to work effectively as an interdisciplinary team member
