Lead Accounting Technician

About This Role

Perform advanced and complex clerical work in fiscal preparation and maintenance for the Treasurer Department, ensuring professional customer service and adherence to accounting tasks. The role involves processing accounts payable, handling various fees and payments, maintaining financial records, and providing leadership to other accounting technicians.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced and complex accounting duties for the Treasurer Department
• Process accounts payable, communicate with vendors, resolve discrepancies, and generate checks
• Collect and post fees for mail, drop box, counter, inter-departmental monies, and County payments
• Process over and short payments and generate correspondence for incorrect payments
• Process installment payments and post payments to appropriate general ledger accounts
• Maintain Sheriff funds and administer the 1% Fireman Fund annually
• Answer phones and assist taxpayers with questions
• Provide instruction and leadership to assigned Accounting Technicians
• Provide outside auditors with proper documentation of accounting transactions
• Assist in reconciling bank statements and accounts, and complete daily balance sheets
• Maintain and balance cash drawer, checks, electronic payments, and related credit card accounts
• Verify accuracy and completeness of accounting records and reports from co-workers and other departments

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED supplemented by education in accounting, bookkeeping, secretarial science or a closely related field
• 5+ years of related work experience

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED supplemented by education in accounting, bookkeeping, secretarial science or a closely related field
• At least five (5) years of related work experience
