About This Role

Enforce County ordinances related to domestic animals, livestock, litter, and nuisance to maintain public safety and welfare. Investigate violations, provide technical interpretation of regulations, and prepare necessary documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol County areas to identify violations of animal, nuisance, and zoning ordinances
  • Investigate complaints of animals creating nuisances
  • Inspect and re-inspect residential, public, industrial, and commercial properties for code compliance
  • Investigate reports of animal abuse or ordinance violations including trash disposal, abandoned vehicles, and vermin infestation
  • File charges, prepare cases for prosecution, and provide court testimony as necessary
  • Prepare inspection reports, issue notices of corrective action and citations
  • Respond to calls regarding stray, vicious, and/or diseased animals and animal bites
  • Explain, interpret, and provide guidance regarding applicable codes and compliance requirements to staff and the public
  • Follow up on cases to verify corrections and conduct re-inspections
  • Assist law enforcement personnel in situations involving animals

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of related work experience
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain euthanasia certification within one year
  • Ability to obtain Class III Basic Law Enforcement Certification through SCCJA within one year

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least two (2) years of related work experience
