Enforce County ordinances related to domestic animals, livestock, litter, and nuisance to maintain public safety and welfare. Investigate violations, provide technical interpretation of regulations, and prepare necessary documentation.
Responsibilities
- Patrol County areas to identify violations of animal, nuisance, and zoning ordinances
- Investigate complaints of animals creating nuisances
- Inspect and re-inspect residential, public, industrial, and commercial properties for code compliance
- Investigate reports of animal abuse or ordinance violations including trash disposal, abandoned vehicles, and vermin infestation
- File charges, prepare cases for prosecution, and provide court testimony as necessary
- Prepare inspection reports, issue notices of corrective action and citations
- Respond to calls regarding stray, vicious, and/or diseased animals and animal bites
- Explain, interpret, and provide guidance regarding applicable codes and compliance requirements to staff and the public
- Follow up on cases to verify corrections and conduct re-inspections
- Assist law enforcement personnel in situations involving animals
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of related work experience
- Valid state driver’s license
- Ability to obtain euthanasia certification within one year
- Ability to obtain Class III Basic Law Enforcement Certification through SCCJA within one year

- At least two (2) years of related work experience
