This role involves end-to-end processing of legal orders such as garnishments and levies for American Express entities, ensuring compliance with relevant federal and state laws. The specialist will also provide administrative support to the legal order processing team.
Responsibilities
- Intake, process, and respond to garnishments, levies, asset freezes, restraining notices, and information subpoenas
- Ensure responses and actions related to legal orders comply with relevant federal and state laws
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of applicable federal and state laws, and policies related to legal order processing
- Navigate multiple systems and platforms and adapt to new technologies
- Provide administrative support to the legal order processing team
- Follow escalation procedures related to legal orders and alert the supervisor when required
- Support projects as needed
Requirements
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Ability to quickly train on, navigate, and extract information and perform actions on a variety of databases and information platforms
- Comfortable with learning new processes and using technology tools
Nice to Have
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
- Prior experience as a legal assistant in a law firm or in-house legal department role
- Prior experience with processing levies, garnishments, and other legal orders
- Sense of urgency and ability to discern critical matters
- Ability to manage workload to meet deadlines and ensure complete and accurate responses
- Ability to use good judgment in decision making
- Able to work under pressure while requiring minimal supervision
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
