About This Role

Perform a variety of duties in the Specimen Processing & Send out Lab, ensuring accurate and timely receipt, order entry, transport, processing, and distribution of laboratory specimens while providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned duties in Specimen Processing & Send out Lab for accurate and timely specimen handling
  • Coordinate activities of Specimen Processing staff on all shifts in the absence of supervision
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Complete training on all benches and scheduled send-out training, with knowledge of processing 60% of send-out specimens
  • Maintain knowledge to perform all MLabs specimen processing and function independently on assigned benches
  • Prepare specimens for reference labs, including FedEx packaging, and scan documents to patient files
  • Identify, report, and correct problems with specimens
  • Order entry of send-out tests to SOFT and Reference lab systems
  • Maintain quality control for Specimen Processing, including temperature checks and daily requisition QA
  • Comply with all safety procedures and practice BSP standards, serving as a role model
  • Use effective communication and work with staff to accomplish goals
  • Model professional behaviors and serve as a resource for other staff
  • Fill in as the go-to person in the absence of a supervisor, handling scheduling, workflow, and new hire questions
  • Assist Training Specialist and Associate Supervisor as a preceptor for new employees
  • Complete yearly departmental mandatories, continuing education, and competencies

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Science classes at a college level
  • Ability to complete all training and testing

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with college-level science classes

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences
