This role involves supporting direct academic and behavioral instruction for K-12 students with special needs, individually or in groups, within a functional life skills program. It includes performing non-instructional tasks, assisting with classroom management, and providing personal care duties as required.
Responsibilities
- Supports direct academic and behavioral instruction to children individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings.
- Performs non-instructional, non-evaluative functions.
- Helps students master equipment/instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Provides classroom management functions.
- Assists with playground/recess, lunch and bus duties as requested.
- Assists with supervision of students during emergency / fire drills, assemblies and field trips.
- Provides escort and assistance to students as necessary.
- Works cooperatively and positively with coworkers and supervisors.
- Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
- Performs Personal Care duties (i.e. feeding, lifting, toileting, etc) as required.
Requirements
- Hold or be eligible for Education Technician I, II, or III Certification from Maine Department of Education
- CHRC fingerprinting (Criminal History Record Check) from Maine Department of Education
