Install fiber optic components for integrated digital TV, high-speed internet, and voice services for residential customers. This role involves connecting fiber jumpers, running wiring, and configuring customer equipment.
Responsibilities
- Connect fiber optic jumpers and drops (aerial, buried, and plenum)
- Run temporary fiber drops ensuring public safety
- Splice fiber drop connectors
- Install ONT and power supplies
- Run or reuse COAX or CAT5 wiring, including burying up to 50 ft.
- Verify service functionality after installation
- Install Internet hubs and routers, utilizing MOCA technology as needed
- Configure customer-owned computers and educate customers on Internet access
- Run COAX cable to TV boxes and CAT5E cable from routers to network interface modules
- Take DB loss readings and initialize set-top boxes for activation
- Program remote controls and educate customers on video products
Requirements
- Valid state driver’s license and non-negligent driving record
- Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- Pass a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screen
- Ability to visually perceive differences in wire and cable colors
- Ability to complete on-the-job and/or classroom training
- Ability to be “on call” and “on standby”
- Knowledge of computer operating systems (MS 98SE, 2000, XP and above)
- Experience cabling various electronic components (modems, routers, TVs)
- Experience working with CAT 5 and COAX wiring
- Ability to provide efficient, quality customer service
- Knowledge of basic electricity as it relates to telecommunications
- Working knowledge of hand and power tools
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to perform job activities outdoors in different weather conditions
- Employee’s weight and tools combined may not exceed 280-pound limit when working aloft
