Installer Fiber Technician

About This Role

Install, connect, and verify fiber optic, internet, and video services for customers. This role involves both indoor and outdoor work, ensuring customer satisfaction with new broadband services.

Responsibilities

• Connect fiber optic jumpers and drops (aerial, buried, plenum)
• Run temporary fiber drops without posing safety hazards
• Splice fiber drop connectors
• Install ONT and power supplies
• Run or reuse COAX or CAT5 wiring, including burying up to 50 ft.
• Install Internet hubs and routers, utilizing MOCA technology as needed
• Configure customer-owned computers and educate customers about Internet access
• Run COAX cable to TV Boxes and CAT5E cable from routers to network interface modules
• Activate set-up boxes on the fiber network and program remote controls
• Educate customers on video products and services
• Verify service for fiber, internet, and video installations

Requirements

• Non-negligent driving record
• Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screen
• Ability to visually perceive differences in wire and cable colors
• Ability to complete on-the-job and/or classroom training
• Ability to be “on call” and “on standby” in relation to workload
• Knowledge of computer operating systems (e.g., MS 98SE, 2000, XP and above)
• Experience cabling various electronic components (e.g., modems, routers, TVs, stereo systems and home entertainment systems)
• Experience working with CAT 5 and COAX wiring
• Ability to provide efficient, quality customer service
• Knowledge of basic electricity as it relates to telecommunications
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools
