About This Role

Manage the safe, effective, and efficient operation of inpatient healthcare facilities, including physical plants and all technical systems. Lead the Hospital Engineering department to meet regulatory requirements and ensure optimal facility performance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization’s inpatient healthcare facilities physical plants, including all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, Fire/Life Safety and other facility equipment and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and all other applicable Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ’s) regulations and requirements.
  • Lead the Hospital Engineering department team in fulfilling department and hospital facilities goals.
  • Manage assigned operating and capital budgets.
  • Ensure work requests and required corrective and preventative maintenance services are appropriately prioritized, successfully completed and properly documented to meet AHJ requirements.
  • Support the organization’s construction team with major projects and manage minor construction, remodeling, and improvement projects within the hospitals.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, local and other AHJ healthcare facility related regulations and standards (The Joint Commission, Title 22, HCAI/OSHPD, OSHA, CDPH, NFPA and Fire/Life Safety authorities).
  • Establish and maintain effective plant equipment emergency operating policies, procedures, staff training and competencies.
  • Evaluate and implement energy efficient facility management strategies and techniques.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and discipline engineering department staff, ensuring appropriate training in safe and effective operations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in hospital Plant Operations and Maintenance or equivalent
  • Leadership experience in healthcare facility physical/central plant operations
  • Familiarity with industrial electrical, mechanical, HVAC, water treatment, high and low pressure steam systems, plumbing, medical gas distribution, alarm monitoring systems, and hospital equipment repairs and maintenance
  • Experience with requirements of healthcare facility-related AHJ’s including OSHA, The Joint Commission, NFPA, CDPH, HCAI/OSHPD and Title 22
  • Basic knowledge of building codes and project management
  • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must maintain a valid California driver’s license

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare facility maintenance or related field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five or more years of experience in hospital Plant Operations and Maintenance or equivalent, with leadership experience in healthcare facility physical/central plant operations (industrial electrical, mechanical, HVAC, water treatment, high and low pressure steam systems, plumbing, medical gas distribution, alarm monitoring systems, and hospital equipment repairs and maintenance).
