About This Role

This position performs manual labor for PPL Electric Utilities, assisting in electrical equipment tasks and preparing for the UG Electrical Apprenticeship Program, while adhering to safety rules and performing basic rigging and cable work for an electrical utility company.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor at any work location, including areas with non-exposed energized electrical equipment
• Perform non-asbestos insulation removal and assist with installation
• Perform general clean-up work including asbestos insulation, steam cleaning, parts cleaning, and vacuuming
• Drive CDL vehicles (excluding high reach equipment over 100 feet) and operate auxiliary mounted equipment
• Operate bucket trucks, line trucks, trenchers, skid loaders, and material handling equipment such as forklifts under de-energized conditions only
• Perform work from self-supporting structures of any height, and erect and perform work from scaffolds, spiders, or similar support devices
• Perform work in the pulling and placing of distribution and transmission type cables in de-energized areas
• Assist higher classifications in energized areas
• Perform basic rigging such as moving or placing transformers, switching devices, and other equipment associated with underground and LTN systems
• Perform paperwork associated with the job duties

Requirements

• Successfully passing the EEI CAST test or its replacement
• Successful completion of appropriate Laborer – FS units of instruction
• General knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in construction and maintenance work
• Ability to observe conditions, learn methods including basic computer-based applications, and follow instructions
• Strength and endurance to perform the duties
• Ability to adhere to the Safety Rules applicable to the work performed
