About This Role

Instruct Health Information Technology courses at Fresno City College, focusing on medical coding, terminology, and health record management. Responsibilities include teaching, mentoring students, curriculum development, and maintaining professional accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in health information management, including medical coding, medical terminology, pathophysiology, health record data content, structure and standards
  • Teach online, hybrid, or face-to-face classes
  • Support, mentor and advise students, including scheduling sufficient weekly office hours on campus
  • Evaluate student learning to demonstrate the AHIMA Entry-Level Competencies for Health Information Management (HIM) at the Associate Degree Level
  • Assist in implementation and assessment of curriculum, program accreditation standards, and program goals
  • Participate in program review and student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning
  • Coordinate advisory committee meetings and establishing relationships with the professional community
  • Maintain continuous professional membership in the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the California Health Information Association (CHIA)
  • Establish and maintain practicum settings and arrange student placement for professional practice experience
  • Collaborate with high schools offering dual enrollment HIT courses
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed

Requirements

  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students and the need for equity-minded practice
  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional experience OR Associate degree and six (6) years of full-time equivalent professional experience OR a valid California Community College Credential OR the equivalent education and/or experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate degree
  • 2+ years of full-time equivalent professional experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 6+ years with an Associate degree

Nice to Have

  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized students
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to support racially minoritized students
  • Related work and professional experience
  • Master's degree or candidate in progress in related field
  • Certification as Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Professional Coder - Hospital (CPC-H), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Certificate for online teaching
  • At least one year teaching experience in an accredited health information technology program
  • Current knowledge of Evidence Based Decision Making
  • Current knowledge of Emerging Workforce Models
  • Certification as required by CAHIIM
  • Experience directing and managing program operations
  • Experience working with various instructional technologies
