Assist physicians and other clinicians with medical record completion to ensure compliance with medical staff bylaws, Joint Commission standards, and CMS regulations. Provide excellent customer service, troubleshoot issues, and monitor incomplete records.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate medical record compliance by utilizing and updating various systems, including Epic Deficiency Tracking.
- Analyze deficiency reports at the discretion of HIM leadership to identify trends and make corrections.
- Prepare, validate, and submit weekly individual physician potential suspension e-mail notifications.
- Perform quality control for accuracy in preparing and submitting weekly incomplete medical record reports.
- Advise physicians, clinicians, and unit staff on record completion policies and procedures.
- Assist clinicians in resolving technical and documentation issues with Central Transcription Services.
- Identify issues and make recommendations for resolution and improvement.
- Assist with development, revision, and maintenance of unit training materials, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) through AHIMA or equivalent education/certification
- Knowledge of standard medical terminology, medical treatments, and documentation requirements
- Ability to read and understand complex medical documentation
- Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze medical information and make independent judgments for deficiency completion
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office for work tasks
- Ability to work independently or in a team with minimal supervision
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with physicians and other providers
Nice to Have
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) through AHIMA or equivalent
- Knowledge of JC standards, CMS regulations, and other regulatory agency record completion requirements
- Experience using UMHHC information systems/applications (i.e. MiChart, OpTime, EpicCare)
