About This Role

As a Pet Stylist, you will provide professional grooming services to pets, ensuring exceptional care and making them look and feel their best. This role involves prioritizing pet safety, maintaining hygiene standards, and delivering high-level customer service to pet parents.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning.
• Operate and maintain various grooming instruments, including clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Prioritize the well-being and safety of every animal in the salon, monitoring for discomfort, illness, or injury, and reporting concerns to pet owners and management.
• Evaluate individual needs of each pet, considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament.
• Interact professionally with pet parents, providing optimal customer service, addressing inquiries, and offering grooming recommendations.
• Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance, at-home care practices, and products to promote overall pet well-being.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area and salon, disinfecting and sanitizing tools and equipment, and performing daily and weekly cleaning duties.
• Utilize knowledge of Petco's grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency.
• Train, support, and supervise entry-level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.

Requirements

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program
• Genuine passion for animals
• Expert knowledge of various dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues and behaviors
• High level of proficiency in breed-specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Capable of handling pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy
• Available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays

Qualifications

• High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required
• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program
