This role involves leading the survey department's geospatial data processing, quality control, and solutions engineering. You will design and optimize workflows and platforms for various data types, contribute to research and development of new service offerings, and manage day-to-day data operations.
Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to improve survey data processing pipelines, geospatial data integration, and reporting workflows
- Design and implement custom tools, scripts, and processes to enhance data throughput and consistency
- Pilot new technologies and platforms such as AI-assisted classification, advanced analytics, and real-time data delivery
- Lead or actively contribute to research and development initiatives for new geospatial service offerings and products
- Oversee the ingestion, organization, and processing of LiDAR, GPR, thermal imagery, and other field data
- Establish and enforce quality control standards and checklists to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency
- Manage GIS datasets, including schema design, attribution standards, and integration into internal and client-facing platforms
- Configure and manage geospatial platforms and tools used by the department (e.g., LiDAR processing software, GIS systems)
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Field Survey Data Processing Analysts and other staff involved in geospatial work
- Collaborate with project managers and business development to understand client needs and translate them into geospatial solutions
Requirements
- Strong foundational knowledge in geospatial technology and principles
- Extensive expertise in LiDAR data processing, including understanding of LAS file formats, classification schemas, and quality metrics
- Proficiency in GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and integration between various geospatial and CAD formats
- Experience with scripting/automation tools (e.g., Python, batch processing) for data processing and workflow optimization
- Experience managing geospatial data pipelines, project queues, and deadlines across multiple concurrent projects
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in client-facing technical roles and cross-functional collaboration
- Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented, with a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure and tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor others in complex technical topics
Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of UAS operations
- Familiarity with AI/ML-assisted classification, point cloud analytics, or similar advanced techniques
- Strong knowledge of T&D infrastructure, including power lines, poles, and related components
