Full-Time Faculty - Speech/Assistant Debate Coach

About This Role

Teach Speech Communication courses and serve as an Assistant Debate Coach for a nationally competitive debate program, fostering student learning and integrating technology into the curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Teach Introduction to Public Speaking and other SPCH courses as needed (approximately 15 hours per semester)
• Assist in coaching the nationally competitive Debate Team, primarily in IPDA style
• Maintain accurate student accounting records in compliance with Lee College requirements
• Submit required student reports to the Admissions & Records Office according to schedule
• Direct and evaluate the learning experience of students in accordance with adopted curricula and approved procedures
• Teach assigned classes in keeping with approved syllabi, outlines, and instructional materials
• Provide counsel/guidance to students when there is a need
• Participate in professional development activities, department and College committees, commencement, and other faculty activities
• Travel with the Lee College Debate Team to tournaments across the nation
• Engage in debate team recruitment efforts at local high schools, in the community, and in classes
• Help plan and administrate debate camps and practices
• Volunteer in the community with speech and debate related activities

Requirements

• Master's degree (or higher) in Communication Studies or Speech Communication, or 18 graduate hours in speech communication
• 3+ years experience coaching or competing in intercollegiate forensics/debate
• Commitment to student learning, integrating technology, and encouraging engaged scholars

Qualifications

• Master's degree (or higher) in Communication Studies or Speech Communication, or a Master's degree (or higher) with a minimum of eighteen (18) hours in speech communication
• At least three (3) years of experience coaching and/or competing in intercollegiate forensics/debate

Nice to Have

• 3+ years teaching speech communication at the college level
• 2+ years experience in IPDA (Public Debate) style
