This role is for an experienced Interim Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Finance, providing critical support in full-cycle accounting, financial leadership, and strategic financial management. The position focuses on maintaining financial stability, ensuring compliance, and delivering data-driven insights to senior leadership during an interim period.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the full-cycle accounting process, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal financial policies and procedures
- Prepare and present financial statements, budget reports, forecasts, and executive-level financial analysis
- Lead the annual budget process, including development, implementation, monitoring, and variance analysis
- Provide strategic financial guidance and decision support to department leaders and operational teams
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team while promoting continuous improvement and best practices
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage all aspects of the annual audit process
- Design, implement, and refine financial policies, controls, and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Support strategic planning initiatives through financial modeling, scenario analysis, and risk assessment
- Monitor cash flow, investments, and debt obligations to maintain organizational financial health
- Identify financial risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies
- Oversee grant and restricted-fund management, ensuring accurate allocation, compliance, and reporting
- Partner closely with Human Resources and other administrative departments to optimize payroll, benefits, and financial operations
- Support ERP systems usage, optimization, and implementation initiatives as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including senior leadership responsibilities
- Demonstrated expertise in full-cycle accounting and financial management
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and budgeting
- Proven ability to analyze complex financial data and translate it into actionable insights
- Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage executive stakeholders
- Demonstrated leadership, team development, and change-management capabilities
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including senior leadership responsibilities
Nice to Have
- CPA or MBA
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience managing grants, restricted funds, or external funding compliance
- ERP implementation or optimization experience
