About This Role

Perform a variety of food service tasks, including preparation, serving, and cleaning, to support the needs of customers, patients, and residents in a Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Responsibilities

  • Set up assigned station with correct supplies and food items
  • Serve food cafeteria style, placing uniform portions on plates
  • Break down and clean assigned station
  • Set up dining room tables for service, placing and replenishing food and beverages
  • Return soiled trays and dishes to the dish room
  • Deliver meal trays to patients' bedsides and report comments to supervisor or dietitian
  • Prepare beverages, fresh fruit, cold salads, dressings, sandwich fillings, and cold sandwiches and simple cold desserts
  • Sort, wash, peel, and cut cold foods using knives or other equipment
  • Assist cooks in food preparation by weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients
  • Operate, break down, and clean food service equipment
  • Portion food items into standard serving sizes using proper utensils
  • Prepare boxed/to-go meals
  • Select and place correct items on patient trays according to menus and diet cards
  • Identify discrepancies between prescribed diets and designated food items
  • Perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout food service and related areas
  • Separate food waste, trash, and recyclables from dishes, glasses, and silverware
  • Unload food/tray delivery carts and store sanitized items

Requirements

  • Evidence of training or experience demonstrating ability to perform food service tasks

Qualifications

  • Training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the work of this position is required. No specific length of experience is mandated.
