This role is for a Fire Design Engineer II in the Retail Sector, responsible for designing intermediate building systems, preparing design documents, and performing engineering calculations. This position also involves occasional task management and mentoring of less experienced designers.
Responsibilities
- Perform calculations and design basic to intermediate design systems with minimal supervision
- Prepare system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics
- Review shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications
- Prepare or modify reports, plans, and designs for projects
- Perform research and make recommendations on feasibility of systems or equipment
- Provide technical guidance to others
- Collaborate on business development or pursuit activities
- Participate in client, company, and/or industry events
- Communicate with clients for requirements and scope of work
- Visit job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress
Requirements
- Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides and standards
- Intermediate proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu
- High technical aptitude
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Team oriented and willingness to function in a highly collaborative environment
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and engineering design software
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field of engineering (mechanical, electrical, fire protection or architectural)
- 3 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or 6 years of experience with a high school diploma
Nice to Have
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Certifications and accreditations aligned with the relevant technical field (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD)
- Certifications and accreditations aligned with sustainability backgrounds (e.g., CDP, LEED, WELL)
