Financial Aid Counselor I

About This Role

Counsel students and parents on financial aid programs, including loans, eligibility, and application status. Provide excellent customer service and assist with financial aid processes like FAFSA and verification.

Responsibilities

• Counsel students and parents on loans and other financial aid programs
• Discuss eligibility, application status, and awards with students
• Prepare financial aid packets
• Provide excellent customer service
• Assist students in person, by phone, or by email
• Award loan funds and other aid
• Assist students with completion of the FAFSA and GSFAPPS
• Assist with the verification process and C-Codes
• Assist with Default prevention plan
• Participate in Student Orientations and Open houses

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Two years of experience in financial aid, banking, or retail associate role
• Knowledge of routine office equipment and procedures
• Knowledge of various software programs
• Knowledge of financial aid application procedures and forms
• Effective communication skills
• Accurate typing/data entry skills
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population
• Ability to utilize BANNER or a similar relational database

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Two years of experience as financial aid, bank, or retail associate, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice to Have

• Bilingual in Spanish
