About This Role

The Field Service Tech Journeyman provides technical assistance in diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy equipment for customers in a designated region. This role rotates on a 14/14 schedule and operates with little to no supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, service and repair various systems found on heavy equipment, including mechanical and computer electronic controls, transmissions, and pneumatic systems
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in heavy equipment and perform repairs
  • Repair and service track drive sprockets, rails, idler wheels, hand bars, track adjusters, and other heavy equipment components
  • Service, diagnose, repair, and maintain speed tandem drive axles with air or electric shift and heavy-duty multi-axle suspensions
  • Tune diesel engines, service valves, fuel filters, turbochargers, and adjust injector heights, fuel racks, and governors
  • Diagnose problems, disassemble units, repair or replace parts, and reassemble units in various equipment systems
  • Overhaul engines, replace engines, and rebuild components
  • Complete and submit all necessary documentation for performed work without supervision
  • Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition
  • Assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the construction and mining machinery industry
  • Working knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of machinery and engines
  • Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies for equipment repair
  • Skills in the use of a variety of hand tools, mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists
  • Ability to pass and maintain drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, bend and twist several times a day
  • Ability to read manuals and schematics, rebuild engines and major driveline components
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight
  • Current driver's license and acceptable driving record

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, accredited trade school graduate preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in the construction and mining machinery industry
