About This Role

This role involves performing intermediate repairs, parts replacement, and assisting with complex repairs on a variety of vehicles including diesel buses, heavy-duty gasoline, and light-duty support vehicles for the Public Transportation Department. The technician will also conduct independent inspections and repairs while ensuring thorough and quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate repairs and parts replacement on diesel bus, heavy-duty gasoline, and light-duty support vehicles
  • Assist Equipment Techs and Lead Techs with complex repairs on various vehicle platforms
  • Conduct independent inspection and repair of vehicles
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to preserve operational and safety integrity of buses, support vehicles, and equipment
  • Service brakes, suspension, electrical, and drive system components
  • Respond to service calls in the field during all types of weather to diagnose and/or recover vehicles
  • Utilize maintenance management software to document work accomplished
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools to complete tasks
  • Clean and maintain shop work areas

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License (at time of application)
  • Valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction (at time of hire or within 120 days with CLP)
  • Satisfactory Drug test (at time of hire)
  • Satisfactory Full Driving Record (at time of hire)

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program
  • Two (2) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience, OR three (3) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience with high school diploma/GED.

  • OSHA 30-hour General Industry certificate
  • OSHA State of Alaska Forklift Certification
  • AssetWorks Academy for Government Fleet
  • Cummins and/or Allison training module completion
  • ASE Transit Bus Certification completion
