Perform technical functions for the Pinal County Air Quality Program, focusing on inspecting and investigating environmental issues, issuing permits, and ensuring compliance with air quality regulations. This role involves community outreach and maintaining ambient air monitoring systems.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and investigate environmental issues and complaints
- Review and issue over the counter permits
- Interpret and apply federal, state and local air quality regulations
- Maintain ambient air monitoring systems and equipment
- Administer the Pinal County Travel Reduction Program (TRP)
- Update websites, bulletin boards, and other information/outreach tools
- Conduct community outreach events, information fairs, and educational training
- Enforce safety rules and regulations and report hazards
- Cross-train in additional Environmental Program skills and functions
- Educate public and business entities regarding air quality regulations
- Maintain personal certificates and further education requirements
- Resolve problems within scope of authority and training
- Inspect individual and commercial properties and work sites
- Review and process asbestos and dust and burn permits
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Natural Science, Physical Science, Communications, Business or Public Administration or related field
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License
- Knowledge of state, federal and regional codes and regulations governing air quality issues, including EPA, ADEQ, and PCAQCD regulations
- Knowledge of basic record keeping practices, and customer service standard and protocols
- Knowledge of federal and state safety rules and regulations
- Skill in compiling, reviewing, and analyzing technical data, and interpreting applicable rules and regulations
- Skill in providing effective customer service, and dealing tactfully and courteously with the public
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Natural Science, Physical Science, Communications, Business or Public Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
